Precision Medicine in Epilepsy

Presenter: Dr. Jim Eubanks

Topic: Precision Medicine in Epilepsy

Biography:

Dr. James Eubanks is a Senior Scientist and Research Division Head at the Krembil Research Institute, and a Professor at the University of Toronto. He completed his Ph.D. in 1991 at the University of California, San Diego, and conducted post-doctoral studies at the Salk Institute, Duke University, and the University of Toronto before starting his own independent lab in 1994. His group investigates mechanisms of pathogenesis for rare genetic forms of neurodevelopmental conditions, and is developing new translational strategies for these conditions based on their findings. For these studies, his group generates mouse models expressing the specific mutation seen in an individual patient that causes their condition. Recent work from his group using these model systems led to the first clinical trial in Canada for the neurodevelopmental condition Rett syndrome. Dr. Eubanks is a member of the Scientific Executive Board for the International Rett Syndrome Foundation, the Ontario Rett Syndrome Association, and CDKL5 Canada.
