Presenter: Dr. Laureen Hachem

Topic: Glutamate and endogenous neural stem cells – unlocking mechanisms of regeneration in the injured central nervous system

Biography:

Dr. Laureen Hachem is currently a second year resident in the Division of Neurosurgery at the University of Toronto. She completed her medical training at the University of Toronto, after beginning her undergraduate studies in neurosciences there, as well. Since 2009 she has been conducting research under the supervision of Dr. Charles Tator investigating the response of endogenous neural stem/progenitor cells to the secondary injury of traumatic spinal cord injury. She has a strong interest in neurotrauma and regenerative strategies for enhancing plasticity in the injured central nervous system and has published multiple papers in the field.
