Music in Epilepsy: A Review and A Randomized Control Study

Presenter: Marjan Rafiee PhD Post Doctoral Fellow

Biography: Marjan Rafiee works at the intersection of engineering, neuroscience, and using music to provide a therapeutic option for individuals with Epilepsy. She is interested in improving her understanding on how the brain activity of individuals with epilepsy changes by listening to music, and how listening to music can be used to reduce their seizure frequency. She got her Master's and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 2014 from the University of Birmingham in the UK, and changed field afterwards to the field of Neuroscience to pursue her passion in improving humans’ lives. She has been leading the music in the epilepsy research line in the Neuron to the Brain lab in Krembil Brain Institute since 2016 by running different aspects of a clinical research study on this topic.
