Neurosurgical applications of MRI-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy: the Toronto Western Experience.

Presenter: Dr. Paul Kongkham MD PhD FRCSC

Biography: Dr. Paul Kongkham is an assistant professor in the Division of Neurosurgery, and neurosurgeon-scientist at UHN. He completed his Neurosurgical Residency and PhD training at the University of Toronto in 2011, followed by a clinical fellowship in surgical neuro-oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center prior to returning on faculty in 2012. His clinical and academic interests lie in the treatment of adult patients with primary and metastatic brain tumours. Among his surgical interests are intraoperative image-guided tumour resection, awake craniotomy, intraventricular neuroendoscopy, and gamma-knife radiosurgery. Partnering with his neurosurgical colleague, Dr. Suneil Kalia, he is involved in establishing the operative technical innovation of Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT) as a novel surgical tool for our neurosurgical patient population at UHN.
